At CT, we are committed to supporting those at the very start of their careers and helping them to build confidence, develop skills, and realise their potential. Our Summer Internship and Graduate Programme have kick-started many successful careers - both those who continue their journey with us and those who we've been proud to see progress with other exciting opportunities.

We work closely with leading universities across Scotland, as well as professional bodies including:

  • the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Scotland (ICAS)
  • the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA)
  • the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW)
  • the Chartered Institute of Taxation (CIOT)
  • and the Association of Tax Technicians (ATT)

Through these partnerships, we aim to attract, develop, and retain talented individuals within the profession.

What programmes do we offer?

Summer internship

Each June, our Summer interns join us across a range of departments, while also collaborating on a group project to present a business plan to our leadership team.

What makes our internship unique is the opportunity to experience real day-to-day work across different service lines - from Audit and Personal Tax to Corporate Tax and Accounts & Business Advisory. This allows interns to make informed decisions about their future careers based on genuine experience, rather than expectation.

We don’t expect interns to have all the answers while they’re still studying. Instead, we encourage curiosity, exploration, and self-reflection - helping each individual discover what truly interests them. We also welcome applicants from all degree disciplines, and we’ve seen many people from diverse academic backgrounds thrive in our environment. There is no “right” path - just the one that suits you best, and we’re here to support you along the way.

Aiza Sattar

"As the placement was rotational, I was able to spend time with each department and get a clear understanding of what a career would look like in each role. This really helped me decide which career path was best for me."

This year, we introduced our first in-person assessment day. After receiving over 200 applications, we invited 19 candidates to take part. Rather than relying on traditional psychometric testing, we focused on practical, real-world tasks - such as reviewing accounts, identifying errors, prioritising workloads, and managing inbox-style communications.

A standout moment was the group exercise, which encouraged candidates to collaborate on a shared solution. It provided a great opportunity to demonstrate teamwork, communication, and the ability to balance differing perspectives - key skills for a successful career in the profession. It was fantastic to see candidates build meaningful connections and begin developing their professional networks before their careers had even begun.

For the first time, some interns will be placed exclusively within our growing Audit team during their busy season. These interns won’t be here to make the tea and coffee, they will spend seven weeks gaining hands-on experience at client sites across Scotland, contributing to real work and building strong client relationships.

At the end of the programme, we are delighted to retain many of our interns, welcoming them back as graduates following their penultimate year at university.

Graduate programme

Our Graduate Programme begins at the end of August, giving new joiners time to unwind after their final year and enjoy the summer before starting their professional journey.

We begin with an engaging induction week designed to help graduates build strong relationships with one another. Our 2025 cohort took part in team exercises and role-play activities, creating a supportive foundation as they prepare to balance work and study together.

By the end of the week, colleagues often become close friends - a culture we’re incredibly proud of. One highlight from last year was a trip to Go Ape, which has already become a memorable milestone in our graduates’ CT journey.

Graduate roles are typically available across Audit, Accounts & Business Advisory, Corporate Tax, and Personal Tax. While day-to-day responsibilities and professional qualifications may differ, each cohort progresses together - offering support, encouragement, and shared experiences along the way.

"The grad programme was very helpful and well planned out. I enjoyed each aspect and felt it was a really good for getting to understand CT and also meeting the people. I think that was really helpful to have the opportunity to meet so many of the people at CT as it made the place feel welcoming and not as daunting."

Following induction, graduates begin role-specific training and start building the core skills required as an Associate. Professional study also begins in September, with each graduate enrolled with their chosen professional body.

At CT, we are committed to supporting our graduates throughout their qualification journey. Our study package includes:

  • Paid study leave
  • Registration and subscription fees
  • First sitting exam costs

We work closely with professional bodies to ensure our students receive the best possible support and experience on their journey to becoming qualified!
