What drew me to apply for CT’s Summer Internship Programme?
When I first considered applying to CT, what stood out to me was the unique structure of the internship. Unlike many firms that place interns in a single department for the entire duration, CT offered something different: the opportunity to rotate across multiple departments. This variety was a major draw for me, and it didn’t disappoint.
Over the course of the internship, we spent time with teams in Audit, Corporate Tax, Personal Tax, and ABA. We also had the chance to attend presentations from specialist departments such as Entrepreneurial Tax, R&D Tax, and Corporate Finance. This exposure gave me a much broader understanding of the day-to-day work across the firm and helped me appreciate how each department contributes to the bigger picture.
What made the experience even more rewarding was the structure of the programme. Each week brought a new challenge, keeping the internship dynamic and engaging. The learning curve was steep, but the support we received made all the difference. Every team we joined was welcoming and approachable, and people were always willing to answer questions, explain concepts, and offer guidance. That supportive environment helped us feel at ease and allowed us to learn quickly on the job.
Overall, the internship at CT was not only educational but also genuinely enjoyable. The variety, the people, and the hands-on experience made it a standout opportunity one that I believe has set a strong foundation for my future career.
How the internship reinforced what I’ve learned through university
Coming into the internship at CT with an accounting degree gave me a solid foundation to build on. It made the transition into the workplace smoother, especially in departments like ABA, where I could directly apply the knowledge, I’d gained during my studies. My understanding of financial statements also proved valuable during my time in Audit although the practical aspects, such as testing, leads, and castings, were completely new to me.
Thankfully, the Audit team was incredibly welcoming and supportive. They took the time to guide us through the unfamiliar processes, which helped me get up to speed quickly and feel confident in my contributions.
The Tax departments were where I experienced the steepest learning curve. I hadn’t yet studied tax as part of my degree, so everything was new. But the structure of the internship starting with ABA and Audit before moving into Corporate and Personal Tax helped ease that transition. By the time we were inputting financial statement figures into tax software, I felt much more prepared and capable.
Corporate Tax laid the groundwork for our understanding, and when we moved into Personal Tax, we were given exam prep materials to introduce us to the basics of a personal tax return. This gave us a solid starting point, and from there we were able to get involved in real work. The team were always available to answer questions and offer support, which made a big difference in such a short timeframe.
Overall, my degree gave me a strong theoretical base, but the internship at CT allowed me to expand far beyond that. I learned a huge amount on the job, especially in areas I hadn’t previously explored. What stood out most was the inclusive and supportive culture: everyone was approachable and eager to help, which created an environment where learning felt natural and enjoyable.
Importantly, this internship structure makes it accessible not just for accounting students, but for those from other academic backgrounds too. With the right support and a willingness to learn, anyone can thrive here.
